Top 5 Things To Do At Home This Labor Day

This year, because of COVID-19, Labor Day may look a little different. Bummed about having to stay home? Don’t be! We’ve created a list of the top 5 things you can do at HOME this Labor Day. First thing’s first– put your flag out to honor fellow hard-working Americans, including yourself. Now, on to the list!

1. Tackle that home DIY project.

You know the one. You’ve put it off for a while now, but there’s no time like that extra day off work to get it done! Hey, this will be fun! Give that mantle a makeover, channel your inner Joanna Gaines and install a shiplap or faux-brick accent wall in the master bedroom, repurpose a thrifted piece of furniture into a beautiful statement piece for your living area, or if you received extra brick from the Betenbough team at your Welcome Home Celebration, build a backyard brick walkway to your very own little garden. Whatever you decide, let your creativity flow! P.S. There’s no need to fear… Pinterest is always near.

2. Get a head start on your holiday decorations.

It’s officially September, so, no, it’s not too early to bust out out the pumpkins and fall décor. Let’s face it, 2020 needs this. You need this. We all need this. Imagine with us: you walk into your home through your newly decorated autumn-inspired front porch (wow, that’s inviting), you immediately smell the fragrant aroma of a warm apple crisp candle flickering in the entryway, you pour a cup of coffee, but this time it’s different because your fridge is now stocked with pumpkin spice creamer (yes, it’s available at all grocery stores), and you have cozy fall accents displayed here and there throughout your home. If you go as far as to put up the Christmas tree, well, all we’re saying is, we won’t judge! We could all use an extra dose of holiday cheer right now.

3. Do something nice for a neighbor.

A random act of kindness goes a long way. Whether it’s mowing the lawn for the elderly couple across the street, dropping dinner with freshly baked bread off for the single parent next door with a home full of growing kiddos, or simply just reaching out and making a connection with the family three doors down. If you spend the day serving others, your labor is love.

4. Rally the block for a neighborhood (socially-distanced) cookout.

Is it a successful three-day weekend if you didn’t partake in firing up some hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill? We certainly think Labor Day isn’t complete without a cookout! Make an evening of it with those who live around you! Betenbough Homes’ communities are full of life, so share in that together by rallying up the block for a neighborhood potluck. Physically distance by setting up lawn chairs or picnic blankets six feet away from one another. Be sure to include your furry friends, too – they’ll just be excited to partake in the scraps!

5. Netflix and chill.

After a busy week of work, sometimes the best way to decompress is by gathering the essentials: your favorite snacks, your coziest blanket and your most comfortable lounge clothes. Got everything? Good. Now you’re ready to binge the newest show. Be sure to break for sunlight and fresh air, then back to the couch you go. Pro-tip: keep the remote nearby for when Netflix inevitably asks its famous question– “Are you still watching?” Hint: the answer is “YES!”

Your friends at Betenbough Homes hope you and your family enjoy a safe and restful Labor Day weekend filled with new memories and lots of love!
