A Local's Guide to Amarillo, TX

We're proud to be serving the West Texas Panhandle, so we've compiled this guide to all the best of Amarillo and Canyon. Since 2015, we've helped nearly 1,000 families in this area build their new homes at the most affordable price!

Our local team knows there's something special about the Yellow City. Keep reading to learn more about their favorite coffee shops, restaurants, and more!

Coffee Shops

A common thread runs through West Texas, tying us together through our shared love of quality coffee. Alongside national chains like Starbucks, Dutch Bros, and Scooter's, Amarillo is home to a few unique local coffeehouses. Roasters has been a staple of the 806 since 1992 - the same year Betenbough Homes was founded! They roast their quality, specialty coffee daily and now have four locations in Amarillo.

Another local favorite, and a name you'll hear often among the Amarillo and Canyon communities, is Palace Coffee Company. You can enjoy locally roasted coffee in their community-minded spaces at all four Palace Coffee Company locations.

Restaurants

Amarillo offers a wide variety of restaurants to serve any appetite! For mouthwatering gourmet pizzas, you have to try 575 Pizzeria! Enjoy one of their specialty pies, or build your own.

If there's one type of cuisine that Amarillo does right, it's Mexican food! Local favorites include Joe Taco, Los Braceros, El Tejavan, and Jorge's.

For a classic American steak and potatoes dinner, visit X- Steakhouse. For an upscale dining experience in the heart of downtown Amarillo, check out OHMS. If you like your dinner with a side of live music, the GoldenLight Cantina is the place for you!

Entertainment & Recreation

There's fun to be had around every turn in Amarillo! Take in a movie, go bowling, work your way out of an escape room, and more at Cinergy Entertainment. Get in touch with your wild side at AMP'D, Amarillo's indoor adventure park. AMP'D features a ninja course, foam pit, and 30,000 square feet of trampolines.

For something a little more educational, head over to Don Harrington Discovery Center. You'll find fun for the whole family in their outdoor science park, space gallery, and interactive learning exhibits here. When the West Texas weather permits, take a tour of the Amarillo Botanical Gardens. While exploring over four acres of lush gardens, you'll learn about the unique plants and their history.

Looking for more outdoor activities in Amarillo? Try golfing at Comanche Trail or Ross Rogers Golf Course, or take in a Sod Poodles minor league baseball game.

Historical Spots

Get your kicks on Route 66 in Amarillo, the halfway point between Chicago and Los Angeles on America's historic Mother Road! The city's 6th Street Historic District preserves over a mile of antique shops, art galleries, restaurants, and more, all located in buildings rich with a history of their own.

For a piece of more recent history, be sure to visit Cadillac Ranch. This public art installation was created in 1974 and has drawn in visitors from all across the globe. Cadillac Ranch is one of the few places where graffiti is not only allowed but encouraged. Be sure to grab a can of spray paint before you head out!

Day Trips

There are plenty of exciting adventures to be had both in and around Amarillo! Just half an hour away in Canyon, Texas, lies the second largest canyon in the United States, Palo Duro. You can explore Palo Duro Canyon State Park by foot, bike, horse, or car. Stay overnight for clear sky stargazing - you can even rent a glamping site for a more luxurious stay! Throughout the summer, be sure to check out the TEXAS Outdoor Musical. This one-of-a-kind show tells stories of early settlers through song, dance, and fireworks!

Head out in any direction from the Yellow City and you're sure to run into a body of water! Just 40 minutes north, you'll find fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. Enjoy a similar experience south of the Yellow City at Lake Mackenzie, where you can fish for bass, walleye, and catfish! Drive an hour west for more fishing, camping, boating, and water sports at Ute Lake in eastern New Mexico, just under two hours from Amarillo.
